My first semi-professional role in the theatre was in a children’s show called Princess in Peril? for Hightower Productions during the summer of 1982. The basic premise of the story followed a typical storybook tale of Princes and Princesses, imperiled by a dragon. Instead of the prince coming to the princess’s rescue, it was he who was lashed to a giant rock by the dragon, only to be saved at the last minute by his Princess.
We toured all over north Texas with that little show, and I learned a lot about an actor’s work ethic performing in it. I entered high school the following year, and immediately enrolled in the theatre program there. I went on to work in professional theatre for the next ten years.
