As Marketing Director for AlphaGraphics‘ seven company-owned stores in Texas, I was responsible for creating promotions, buying ads (including print, outdoor, and radio), and marketing for seven busy print/copy shops in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin and San Antonio, Texas. (I was based in Dallas, but traveled weekly to other stores.)
Prior to being promoted to Marketing Director, I worked as Presentation Graphics Specialist creating large-format color displays using the then-cutting edge technology from Canon now known as “inkjet” printing. At the time, only two oversize color bubblejet printers existed in the country, and I ran one of them.
I also worked for a short time at the “LazerGraphics” desk, which is what we now call desktop publishing. There, I learned the basics of Macintosh computers and graphic design/layout using what was considered revolutionary technology at the time (a Mac Plus, PageMaker and WordPerfect software, and desktop laser and dye-sublimation printers.)
